Charities Take The Campaign for a Fair Society To Holyrood

Major charities across Scotland including ENABLE Scotland and the Coalition of Care and Support Providers in Scotland will consult with MSP’s and senior figures on the draft UK manifesto of Campaign for a Fair Society on 7th December 2011 at Holyrood.

They say that many of society’s disabled people are being forced to shoulder far more than their fair share of the Government’s austerity burden.

Scottish Campaign for a Fair Society submits a paper to the United Nations' Human Rights Council


The Scottish Campaign for a Fair Society’s coalition has submitted a paper to the United Nations’ Human Rights Council. This is because they will do the second Universal Periodic Review of the United Kingdom(in 2012).

The Report is not available in easy read yet because we had to write it quickly. We hope to do an easy read version very soon.

Welsh Government agrees to Developing a Strategy on Independent Living


The Minister for Finance in Wales announced on Tuesday 11th October that the Welsh Government will develop a Framework for Action on Independent Living. This is in direct response to Disability Wales' Independent Living NOW! campaign, which called for a National Strategy on Independent Living.

Welfare Reform Bill - An urgent call to arms!


After an incredibly constructive debate yesterday in the House Of Lords the government appear to be concerned about how many Lords had significant concerns about the Welfare Reform Bill, even those Lords who in principle supported the bill had major questions they wanted answers to.

Welfare Reform Bill - Universal Credit

The welfare reform bill that incorporates the new Universal Credit got it’s second reading in the House of Lords on 13th September 2011. Once complete it then moves to the committee and report stages before the third reading and amendments to the bill. The new system will start in 2013.

The UK government says that this will make things simpler for people and will encourage people to work. Many people are worried about these changes. We have attached the full document and an easy read version so that you can look at these and find out more about the Universal Credit.
